Social Bookmarking is Often Underestimated
The Favorites (IE) and bookmarks (Firefox), we all know this. It was to save the first offer, interesting websites and thus easier to find. The problem is, the number of stored pages, was the cause complex quickly.![]()
The folder structure that is used there is concentrated, a one, because often pages can not be clearly assigned to one category. And what do you do if the page fits into multiple folders? If one then two or three times from? When I look at my user behavior, I note: after I had saved 100 bookmarks was final.
The thing was too confusing, I could not find anything. That was the time when I began to interest me for social bookmarking services. The interesting thing about them: they are available online and no longer have a folder structure, but waiting for them with keywords, called tags provides.
The second advantage: I do not have to settle the finds that I have discovered, but can also access the pages that others have found and saved. The problem is that both their own bookmarks as well as the other can be used only useful if they actually provide you with keywords. The titles of individual sites are often very bland and then are to find any key words, then no one has helped it, because this is not about saving pages, but about the recovery.
That is, who really wants to work with bookmarks and is ready to make its treasures available to others, should give each page stored immediately with keywords. What this is then, depends on one's own system. It should be keywords that you yourself also used and it can still be more keywords. The more there are, the more you can research in your bookmark archive, because the search can be combined with various slogans. That is, they can, for example, the combination of 'project management' and 'software to use and will achieve much better results than the search term' project management 'alone.
Another advantage: you can automate the search for individual keywords by using RSS. Suppose you are looking for Delicious (http://delicious.com) for the term project management. Enter the term in the search field and then receive a list of stored pages, which you or other 'project management' have been provided with the descriptor.
Up in the address bar, so where you find the URL, you will see quite the orange RSS icon. This icon indicates that the site for an RSS feed is available. So you have to take only the feed in your RSS reader and can easily find out from that moment in the reader, if anyone has saved on Delicious, a new site using the keyword 'project management'.
They have next to this approach, where the key words are important, of course, still possible to orient themselves to other users of the particular social bookmarking service. You can subscribe to that is not just slogans via RSS, but also some female users.
If you eg http://delicious.com/hennerfehr enter, you will only find all of my saved pages at Delicious is not listed, but you see above in the address bar for the RSS icon and thus the indication that an RSS feed is here.
We are therefore working on the social bookmarking services with the social web approach, ie we communicate with others, even if only indirectly, through the exchange of links.
The most interesting social bookmarking services are:
- Mister Wong http://www.mister-wong.de/ (German)
